..::GROW YOUR OWN::..

We love good food! We have always liked growing our own and few years back invested in an amazing polytunnel. You definitely need one of them when growing fruit and veg in UK. The weather can be a little unpredictable.

It’s so nice to go out and just pick fresh from the garden, so all the work is totally worth it. We have a selection of plants growing, some exotic like a peach tree and a kiwi tree. There are tomatoes, various varieties of lettuce, onions, the usual that you need for a healthy delicious salad. A great success was growing purple potatoes. Kids like colourful food and as you know different colour carrots, multi-colour aubergines and different veg are taking over the supermarkets. So our purple pots were loved by all who had the chance to taste.

During the summer months, the elder trees we have growing in our field, produce amazing flowers, that we made into elderflower cordial. That was equally poplar with kids and adults. Lemonade for kids and elderbubble cocktails for adults. We do love a bit of bubbly.

Fresh food is the best food! There is a massive difference when comparing the flavour of a home grown tomato with the taste of a store-bought one. If it tastes better, you’ll be more likely to eat the healthy, fresh produce that you know your body needs. When they’re growing in your backyard, you won’t be able to resist, and their vitamin content will be at their highest levels straight from the garden. Eating more fresh fruit and veg will keep you healthy.

Growing your own fruit and veg can reduce your grocery shopping bill, a bill we can’t skip. Especially when the cost of everything seems to be higher these days and you have a big family to feed. Also backyard gardening helps the planet in many ways and reduces your environmental impact. For most people growing fruits and vegetables might seem overwhelming, but it’s actually much simpler than it sounds. All you really need is a water supply and bit of time.

Growing your own food is purposeful and rewarding —it’s work that helps to nourish your family, maintain good health and your taste buds will thank you.

Keep on growing !
